San Diego Date Idea #4!

I am probably most keen to this date idea. Manly because I would do this regardless of Valentine's Day. But for all of you out there that are not movie nerds, this date idea is great if you love to add your own commentary to the film, throw popcorn at your significant other, or maybe shamelessly make out during the flick.

San Diego Date Idea #4!

The Movie Date!

San Diego is home to a few different Drive-In movie theatres. There is nothing more fun that packing the car with snacks and heading down the the local Drive In to catch your favorite flick. Valentin's Day weekend there will  most defiantly be love in the air and on the big screen. The best part about this date, if you don't like the movie you can always just open the moon roof, lean your seats back and look at the stars.

There are several great locations to visit a Drive In in San Diego, with plenty of romantic comedies playing.

I also wanted to mention a great alternative to the Drive In and that is the unique Cinema Under The Stars.

Cinema Under The Stars, which is located in Mission Hills, is a really cool open air movie theatre. The seats, developed by NASA, recline almost completely flat to ensure the most comfortable viewing experience. They have some really cute and kooky movies playing Valentine's Day weekend.
Friday and Saturday - It's Kind Of A Funny Story
Sunday - Roman Holiday

Foot Note:
This is a great date idea if you have kids and don't have a sitter. Throw them in the car when you go to the drive in. Be sure to put them into their pjs and bring a pillow and blanket, because chances are that they will fall asleep before you get half way through the movie.
I also think that this is a great idea if you are going to go out with another couple - or alternatively if you are a group of singles looking for something fun to do Valentine's Day weekend.

San Diego Date Idea #3!

I think that every woman needs a little mushy gooey romantic cheese in their life. Today's date is the Brie of Valentine's Day dates.

San Diego Date Idea #3!

The Gondola Cruise

Now I am not the kind of girl who would enjoy this my any means on a normal date, but there is something about Valentine's Day that makes the overly romantic seem almost endearing. That is why I propose to you that you pull all of the stops on this date. The entire nine yards... And nothing SCREAMS romance like a romantic gondola cruise around the San Diego Bay.

The Gondola Company offers 2 different types of cruises for the Valentine's Day holiday. One during the day and the other just in time for sunset. You can even add your own private mandolin player for an additional $100.

Why not make it an Italian themed night? Treat your partner to a romantic gondola ride, and really impress  by packing a bottle of Prosecco and hand made Cannoli from Little Italy. Then after your ride why not enjoy a romantic candle lit dinner in Little Italy and a stroll down India Street?

Foot Notes:
I would highly recommend Dramamine if you are planning on this date. Nothing kills an evening like sea sickness...
Some restaurants that I highly recommend in Little Italy are: Buon Appetito, Mimmo's Italian Village, and Bencotto Italian Kitchen.
Do Not Forget to end the light at Extraordinary Desserts!

San Diego Date Idea #2!

We have been having some truly spectacular weather this past week, and fingers crossed it will carry on into the Valentine's Day weekend. So this date idea is in celebration of the beautiful beach and sunset culture that is in San Diego.

San Diego Date Idea #2:

The Beach Bonfire Date!

This date is for the Honey with very little money, but still you will be considered very sweet!  (Sorry I won't do any more rhyming or play on words, I swear!) In fact I have done the math and this date will be under $50.

The Plan:
San Diego Beaches, be it Coronado, La Jolla Shores, Mission Beach, Del Mar or Encinitas, all come equipped with bonfire pits. Plus is there anything more romantic than the beach at sunset? Add a roaring fire and hot chocolate for two and you will have your significant other melting in your hands.

Head out to your favorite local beach, I highly recommend La Jolla Shores. Around 4 am, sunset is at 4:57 pm during the beginning of February. Find an available pit, then set up your fire. You and your love will be snuggled up by the fire as the sunsets over the pacific.

Things to bring:
  • Fire Making Tools: Wood, News Paper, A Lighter / Matches, and of course water to smother the fire.
  • A Blanket. Lets face it girls are always cool. Plus one blanket is perfect for a cuddle-fest.
  • Something to sit on. Be it chair or blanket the sand will be too cold to sit directly on at night.
  • Maybe some Sandwiches from your favorite sandwich shop or some gourmet cheese and crackers.
  • S'More Fixings: Gram Crackers, Marshmallows, Chocolate, and skewers to roast them with.
  • A Thermos of Hot Cocoa or Premium Roast Coffee.
  • Beach Towels... you never know where the night might lead. You may feel the urge to take a moonlight dip. Trust me, you'll be glad that you brought them.
  • Also, gentlemen, don't forget the flowers!
Foot notes:
This date is for the new couple still getting to know one another or perhaps even that laid back casual couple. Still none the less should be quiet romantic. I suggest that if you are looking to add something out of the ordinary this Valentine's Day and avoid the crowds this would be a great alternative.
